The Bellarine Railway

Visitors to the historic town of Queenscliff can enjoy a 45-minute steam train trip along the picturesque Swan Bay to Lakers Siding. Passengers travel in 1920s-style carriages that are fully enclosed, yet offer the time-honored option of raising a window to truly become part of the passing landscape.

The Swan Bay Express operates on most Sundays and public holidays throughout the year, with additional days during Victorian school holidays. Currently, all trains depart from Queenscliff Station at 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:15 pm.

Family-friendly events that bring characters and storys to life include ‘Day Out With Thomas’ and “THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride’. Over the Easter long weekend, scenic trips will run on Good Friday, with proceeds being donated to the RCH Good Friday Appeal. Additionally, the Swan Bay Express Easter Specials running on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. In the winter school holidays, Dazzling Dan the Magic Man, offers Magic Show and Workshop Specials onboard the train!

The Bellarine Railway is operated and maintained by the dedicated volunteers of the Geelong Steam Preservation Society, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1970. The society was the first Victorian preserved railway established entirely by volunteers. It initially ran trains at Belmont Common in Geelong before relocating operations to the Queenscliff-Drysdale section of the former Victorian Railway’s South Geelong-Queenscliff branch line in 1976. The line is recognized as the oldest Victorian branch line still in operation.
