A Building with a Storied Past
The Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House is a modern museum located inside a heritage-listed building that was once home to Australia’s Parliament.
True to the building’s original brief, they provide a ‘people’s place’, where all voices are heard and big ideas are explored. Through exhibitions, events, community and education programs, MoAD aims to improve understanding of democracy and how to take part in it. One of the most popular exhibitions, “Democracy DNA”. This exhibit explores the events, debates and decisions that shaped our nation through the stories of the people who created our democracy. Taking a MoAD Tour
Book a guided tour of Old Parliament House and discover significant moments in Australia’s political history in the very place they happened. Getting Around in MoAD
The Museum of Australian Democracy is open daily, from 9am to 5pm (closed Christmas Day). The entrance fee is free of charge. The MoAD is located inside Old Parliament House. Free accessible parking and accessible pick-up and drop-off are located at the front of the museum. They are accessible by public transport with several bus stops within 5-10 minutes walk of the building.
Courtesy wheelchairs and strollers are available from reception. Mobility scooters may be used in all areas of the museum. The MoAD has a “Disability Inclusion Action Plan”. It is their commitment to improving the MoAD experience for all our visitors, staff and volunteers, in line with the Disability Discrimination Act. They aim to provide equal access and enjoyment for everyone who visits our museum.
