Royal Agricultural Society – Darwin Show

The Royal Agricultural Society has a 21 member Council. The Full Council is responsible for the organisation of the annual Darwin Show through its committees. The Board of Management has responsibility for overall management of the Showgrounds & Exhibition Centre. The 2017 Royal Darwin Show will take place on Thursday 27th, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th July at the Winnellie Show grounds. Opening hours: 9am - 10pm Entry fees: Adults $20 Children 14 & under $12 Children 5 & under free Family 2A+ 3C Under 14yrs $50 Pensioners $12 Entry on Thursday 9am - 3pm $12 Adult membership $65 The show is run by the Royal Agricultural Society of the Northern Territory and is the highly anticipated showcase of quality farming and production in the state. And many come for the equestrian events. Over 20,000 people visit the show each year and come from across the country to view and participate in competitions that include sections like photography, art, stud cattle, cooking, horticulture and even fire lighting and spear throwing. Stalls, which bring local craft and foodstuffs into the area, sometimes number close to 250. Live entertainment throughout the three days adds to the excitement of the event. The highlight, though, is the Grand Parade on Friday with everything from boats to parachutists landing in the arena to musical bands, as well as livestock like horses, cattle and goats. Classic cars are often a feature too.
