East Coast

The East Coast of Tasmania from St Helens through to Orford is stunning in its beauty and virtually untouched. For kids, there is so much to do, with kayaking, glass bottom boats, nature world, quad bikes and more, no one will feel like there’s nothing to do on the East Coast.

The East Coast of Tasmania from St Helens through to Orford is stunning in its beauty and is virtually unspoilt. The beaches are long, wide and white, the offshore islands untouched and the lifestyle laid back in typical beachside towns like Scamander, Bicheno and Swansea. The main town is St Helens with all the amenities you would expect and the base from where you can explore stunning Binalong Bay and The Bay of Fires. You can do the one hour return walk to the Point, where you can go sandboarding on the spectacular Peron Dunes. Homelea has affordable family style accommodation and they love kids. Have a hit of golf on a kid’s size course at Cerise Brook. Swansea is a true beachside holiday town. Take a stroll along the foreshore and dip your feet in the sparkeling ocean. You can even take a ferry to the nearby Triabunna to the old penal settlement on Maria Island and its old gaol! The holiday haven of Bicheno has a mild climate, sparkling ocean beaches, beautiful coastal scenery, fresh seafood and a huge range of activities. You can go sea kayaking, snorkelling at the marine park at Governor’s Island or take a seasonally operated glass bottom boat. East Coast Natureworld will be the kids favourite, they can hand feed the animals! The pretty town of Coles Bay is a great base to explore the Freycinet National Park with its spectacular coastal scenery that includes famous Wineglass Bay, which is rated as one of the ten best beaches in the world. Take a sea kayak tour or cruise the Peninsula by air, under sail, on an eco-cruise or on land with a Quad Bike tour! Families love the tranquillity and free space that the kids have on the East Coast.
