SUMMARY:Distraction
DESCRIPTION:This free exhibition plugs into the streaming torrent of content and the places brains go when it wants to focus on anything but the thing. You know… that thing you’re supposed to be doing right now? \nYour distraction of choice could be scrolling\, daydreaming or escaping into a digital universe. When minds are bouncing around the whirring\, flashing pinball machine of existence – is wayward attention a way of coping with the chaos?   \nVisit Science Gallery Melbourne to experience the playful ways humans devote their time in an increasingly nonsensical world. With a hundred tabs open and endless avenues to explore\, how is it possible to harness the cacophony of content and find meaning within it? \nNow showing at Science Gallery at the University of Melbourne\, where art and science collide. \nPhotography by Astrid Mulder.

SUMMARY:Self Assembly
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop with Simon\, you will use your hands to craft a stick figure sculpture in your likeness with fallen branches and plaster. You will create limbs\, a torso\, a head and use bandages and plaster to hold them together. As the plaster sets\, the raw materials transform into expressive statues that capture gesture and movement. Work with others to join your individual figures together and build a community of stick figures that stand strong and united.
