With our ever-growing appetite to document our lives through photos and selfies, children are so often the reluctant subjects of their parent’s cameras. Asked to smile, look cute, look that way, and come in closer, I See you Like This turns the camera back and allows children to see their parents as subjects through the lens of their own imaginations.
Artist Jessica Wilson has worked with designer Matilda Woodroofe and children at ArtPlay to create a mobile photo studio that gives space to adults and voice to kids – an experiment exploring the parent/child relationship. Photographed by Carla Gottgens, the result is a series of professional photo portraits that are beautiful, strange and funny.
Come and see the complete series of portraits on display for the first time in the ArtPlay gallery. Using unusual props and craft materials, you will also have the opportunity to direct your own artistic portrait of your chosen adult.
This project is part of ArtPlay’s New Ideas Lab program, where artists are supported to create new work with children and families.
