Over two days, children at ArtPlay have worked with artists and musicians Bryan Phillips and Moses Iten to create a city of sounds! This new project is inspired by the sound systems built in Colombia and Mexico – like mobile discos built and elaborately decorated by local DJs and their families using whatever they can find.
The Sound System City is compromised of sculptures that the children have built from recycled materials and found objects. But that’s not all – the buildings in this reimagined city play sounds recorded by the children using analogue and digital technology.
In this free drop-in session, come and see what the children have created as it all comes together to compose a musical cityscape. You will also have the chance to ‘play’ the Sound System City yourself.
This project is part of ArtPlay’s New Ideas Lab program, where artists are supported to create new work with children and families.
Age: 4 to 12 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
