Join artists and musicians Bryan Phillips and Moses Iten to create a city of sounds! This new project is inspired by the sound systems built in Colombia and Mexico – like mobile discos built and elaborately decorated by local DJs and their families using whatever they can find.
You will work together to build sculptures that represent the city from recycled materials and found objects. Each of the buildings in your reimagined city will then become a speaker. Working with analogue and digital technology, you will create and record the sounds of the city, which will be programmed into the sculptures. Brought together, your sound sculptures will compose a musical cityscape that others will be able to explore in the Sound System City Demo.
This project is part of ArtPlay’s New Ideas Lab program, where artists are supported to create new work with children and families.
Age: 5 to 8 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
