SUMMARY:STEAM UP! At Pearns Steam World
DESCRIPTION:The return of two of the largest steam traction engines every to come to Australia back to Tasmania is a special feature of this year’s Steam Up. These engines\, along with others\, were instrumental in dredging the Trevallyn Hydro plant’s tail race\, linking the power station with kanamaluka\, the river Tamar. These engines weigh nearly 25 tons each. \nThe engines will feature alongside other steam engines\, some of which will be fully operational. We are also getting some interesting tracked vehicles out to play around in the grounds; including a World War 2 Caterpillar bulldozer that has returned to working condition during the year. It was used to create landing strips for the US Airforce in the Northern Territory before coming to Tasmania in the 1950’s to work on Hydro-electric projects. \nOur miniature railway will be operating during the weekend\, giving free rides to those who visit the event.  \nWe welcome back the team from the local Anglican Parish church to provide the catering. \nBBQ\, Fresh sandwiches\, home-hade cakes\, tea/coffee and ice-creams etc..

From driving regional tourism and supporting local businesses to improving community health and strengthening connections to culture and Country\, trails are playing an increasingly important role in communities around the world. \nThe conference program features an extensive line-up of keynote presentations\, panel discussions\, workshops and case studies covering sustainable trail development\, destination management\, regenerative tourism\, conservation\, volunteer stewardship\, community engagement\, trail planning\, outdoor recreation and First Nations connections to Country. \nDelegates will hear from an inspiring line-up of Australian and international speakers\, including adventurer and endurance athlete James Castrission\, and Noongar cultural educator\, author and storyteller Jayden Boundry\, alongside a growing list of global trail leaders\, tourism innovators\, conservation practitioners and First Nations voices who are helping shape the future of trails around the world. \nA standout feature of the event is the series of optional pre-conference tours\, providing delegates with the opportunity to experience some of Western Australia’s most iconic landscapes\, trails and outdoor experiences firsthand. Designed to foster meaningful conversations and lasting professional relationships\, the tours offer an invaluable opportunity for networking\, knowledge exchange and collaboration before the conference officially begins. \n“Trails are far more than routes through the landscape\,” said Lauren Stuart\, Conference Director for World Trails Conference 2026. “They connect people to nature\, culture\, community and place. They encourage health and wellbeing\, bringing moments of joy\, calm and reflection\, and offer a welcome pause from the pace of everyday life. They support regional economies\, conservation outcomes and healthier communities. It is an honour to be hosting this event for the people responsible for trails around the world” \nIn addition to the conference program\, a dedicated exhibition and sponsorship program offers organisations the opportunity to connect with a highly engaged audience of trail professionals\, destination managers\, government representatives\, conservation organisations\, tourism operators and industry leaders. \nCurrent sponsors and exhibitors include AllTrails\, Heyscape\, Paddy Pallin\, WA Better by Nature\, Bruce Trail Conservancy\, Taiwan Thousand Miles Trail Association\, Mirliny\, Paul Pichugin and Adventure Smart WA\, with additional organisations continuing to join the event. \nThe conference is expected to appeal to a broad audience\, including: \n• Trail managers and planners\n• Tourism operators and destination marketers\n• Parks and conservation agencies\n• Outdoor recreation organisations\n• Adventure tourism businesses\n• Local\, state and national government representatives\n• Land managers and environmental practitioners\n• First Nations organisations and cultural tourism operators\n• Volunteer groups and trail associations\n• Researchers\, academics and students\n• Outdoor education providers\n• Community recreation leaders \nWith registrations open\, organisers are encouraging those working in\, supporting or passionate about trails to secure their place and be part of one of the most significant gatherings of trail professionals ever held in Australia. \nWestern Australia’s globally recognised trails\, unique landscapes and strong connections to culture and Country provide an ideal backdrop for conversations that will help shape the future of trails both nationally and internationally. \nFor more information\, delegate registrations\, sponsorship opportunities and exhibition packages\, visit the World Trails Conference 2026 website.

SUMMARY:Little Sprouts Makers Market
DESCRIPTION:Perth’s biggest child-led makers market gives more than 15 young creators the chance to turn their weekend hobbies into a real business.\n \n\nThis October\, more than 15 school-aged children will step into the world of entrepreneurship as Little Sprouts Child-Led Makers Market gives young creators the opportunity to showcase and sell their unique creations in a hands-on learning experience.\n \n\nFrom customer service and communication to problem-solving\, pricing\, money management\, and decision-making\, participants will develop valuable life skills in a fun\, supportive\, and family-friendly environment. Visitors can expect a diverse range of products created by the young entrepreneurs\, including slime bars\, novelty toiletry bags\, customised fidget clickers\, baked goods\, and much more.\n \n\nCreated by Lydia\, founder of Empowered Little Voices\, the event is built around a simple but powerful idea: children should be given opportunities to explore their ideas\, build confidence\, and develop practical skills in ways that are engaging and age-appropriate.\n \n\nFor Lydia\, the event is about much more than a school holiday activity.\n \n\n“I wanted to create an opportunity where children could experience entrepreneurship in a way that feels exciting\, achievable\, and genuinely theirs. We talk so much about preparing children for the future\, but sometimes the best way to teach them is simply to give them the opportunity to try.”\n \n\nShe added:\n \n\n“I want to help the next generation learn and grow beyond the classroom\, nurture their creative minds\, and empower them to pursue whatever they set their minds to.”\n \n\nTo bring the concept to life\, Lydia has personally invested her time and resources and partnered with 11 Acre Farm\, a family-friendly destination committed to creating healthier communities through connection to food\, nature\, learning\, and one another.\n \n\nFamilies are invited to celebrate the end of the spring school holidays with an afternoon of shopping\, creativity\, and connection. Visitors can browse the market stalls\, enjoy food and refreshments from the café\, visit the farm animals\, and let younger children explore the venue’s popular Cubby Lane play area.\n \n\nA Market Where the Sellers Are the Kids\n \n\nFor shoppers\, this is an opportunity to discover unique handmade products while supporting young people as they take their first steps into entrepreneurship. Every purchase directly encourages a child to build confidence\, develop new skills\, and pursue their ideas.\n \n\nAn Idea With Bigger Ambitions\n \n\nWhile this is the first event of its kind in Perth\, Lydia hopes it will be the beginning of something much bigger.\n \n\nThrough Empowered Little Voices\, her mission is to create meaningful opportunities that help children find their voice\, understand their capabilities\, and develop practical skills that will stay with them long beyond childhood.

SUMMARY:Space Neighbours on Uranus
DESCRIPTION:They say you can’t choose your neighbours\, even in outer space. \nUranus is four times bigger than Earth but that’s still not enough space for two neighbouring aliens. Sharing a fence line and not much else\, the two strange beings drive each other up the wall and into orbit. They love to hate and squabble at every opportunity. Don’t even get them started on yucky cooking smells. \nWhen the arrival of a new creature puts their arguments into perspective\, the aliens must find a way to live as themselves\, as well as side by side. \nWritten and directed by the acclaimed artist Nathan Maynard (Palawa) and designed by master creature maker Bryony Anderson\, Space Neighbours on Uranus is a funny\, powerful exploration of home\, no matter what planet you live on.
