SUMMARY:Wycheproof Steam Weekender
DESCRIPTION:Steamrail Victoria invites you to join us for this exciting event of overnight travel in beautifully restored sleeping carriages. Travel by steam to the Mallee town of Wycheproof – the unique town where the railway runs down the main street!\nThis will also be Steam Locomotive R711’s first visit to Wycheproof.TICKETS AND MORE INFO – www.trybooking.com/DEJKO \nDay 1 – Saturday 18th October 2025\nAfter picking up at Newport and Sunshine Stations\, the train will gather speed through the Western Suburbs and head out across the grasslands towards Geelong. After skirting Port Phillip Bay on the edge of the city of Geelong\, our R class steam locomotive (with diesel assistance) will work hard to lift our heavy sleeper train through the hills of the Golden Plains\, travelling along the original mainline between Ballarat and Geelong from 1862.\nFollowing a pick up stop at Ballarat\, we will venture north through the Goldfields to Maryborough – the station with a town attached. Here there will be a short stop to wander into town and have lunch while the locomotive takes on water. Rejoin the train for a spirited run through Dunolly and into the rolling hills of the Mallee – before arriving at Wycheproof\, 344 kilometres from Melbourne by rail.\nDisembark the train at your leisure for dinner at one of the local pubs before settling into your accommodation either On-Train or in Motels. \nDay 2 – Sunday 19th October 2025\nTime is provided to take a morning walk through town and to enjoy a complimentary buffet style breakfast at the Royal Mail Hotel. Enjoy views of R711 steaming up and down Broadway before rejoining the train in style – all passengers will board the train in the middle of the main street! Departure for Melbourne will be mid morning.\nOnce the train is underway\, a complimentary boxed lunch will be provided onboard\, courtesy of Bakery on Broadway. After another brief stop at Maryborough\, we will arrive back into Ballarat.\nAn express run back to Melbourne will be made via ‘the straight’ – via Bacchus Marsh – descending the famous 1 in 48 Ingliston Bank\, providing spectacular views back towards Melbourne & across the Werribee Gorge State Park before passing over the iconic 357-metre Melton Viaduct\, built in 1885 to traverse the Werribee River. The train will arrive back at Sunshine and Newport Stations after an exciting steam hauled weekend away. \nAll passengers will have access to our Club Car Moorabool with relaxed open seating and our Kiosk / Bar. \nFree car parking for passengers is available at Newport Station in the commuter car parks at 21 Market Street Newport VIC. \nTICKETS AND MORE INFO – www.trybooking.com/DEJKO \nON-TRAIN ACCOMMODATION \n‘Railway Style’ sleeping accommodation is available in our heritage Sleeping Cars. \nSettle into your private berth for a night in our gorgeous early 1900’s timber bodied sleepers. On boarding\, your room will be set up in the sleeping configuration.\nFor the daytime portions of the tour you may make your way to the sitting areas of the train\, raise your bed to become a seat\, or lay in bed and watch the scenery roll by. \n‘Railway Style’ sleeping accommodation is like glamping in a beautiful 1920’s carriage: \nThe compartment is for your private use all weekend\,\nTwinnette Rooms may be booked for only one passenger at the same price. Please leave a note when making your booking\,\nBedding is provided\,\nCarriages are either air-conditioned or non air-conditioned (opening windows)\,\nTwinnette Rooms (for two people) are bunk style – one member of your party will need to be able to climb the ladder to the top bunk\,\nToilets are available at the end of each carriage or in the adjacent carriage\,\nThe shower car will be available for use – please bring your own towel & toiletries\,\nComplimentary bottles of water will be available\,\nDue to the age of these carriages\, access to power is limited\, so it is recommended to bring a power bank for charging mobile devices\,\nThere is limited storage in compartments so we recommend limiting luggage brought onboard\, similar to carry-on size on a flight. There is a shelf for your bag and a hanging closet for shirts & coats. \nMOTEL ACCOMMODATION \nMotel accommodation is also on offer at Wycheproof.\nRooms have been booked at the Mt Wycheproof Motor Inn\, Royal Mail and Terminus Hotel. \nThe fare includes rail fare and reserved seating in a heritage sitting car\,\nThe train will stop at Wycheproof Station which is an 8 minute walk to the Terminus Hotel or a 12 minute walk to the Royal Mail Hotel and Mt Wycheproof Motor Inn\,\nIf your group is smaller than the capacity of the room\, please leave a note when making your booking. \nON BOARD FACILITIES \nOur on-train facilities include a kiosk in Club Car Moorabool which stocks a wide range of light refreshments\, snacks and hot & cold drinks. A licensed bar will also be operating\, serving a range of beers\, wines and spirits. \nTHE VINTAGE TRAIN\nRide with us onboard ‘The Vintage Train’\, fully restored by Steamrail as an important part of Victoria’s rail heritage. Our steam locomotives are coal or oil fired and date from 1889 to 1952\, while the carriages range from as early as 1906. The train features beautiful timber work & pressed-tin ceilings\, walk-through corridors\, comfortable compartment style seating\, a licensed bar and kiosk\, and toilets with washrooms. All rail seating is reserved. \nVENUE\nDeparting Newport\, Sunshine or Ballarat Railway Stations. \nTICKETS AND MORE INFO – www.trybooking.com/DEJKO
