SUMMARY:The Bogong's Song a call to Country
DESCRIPTION:What guides you through the darkness when you’ve lost your way? A whisper on the wind. A shimmer in the stars. A moth in flight. \nWhen a brother and sister turn out the lights for the night\, they are swept into a world of imagination — a portal to their Dreaming. Seeking an elusive Bogong Moth\, they journey into an extraordinary world where Country shares its secrets. In this place\, the past speaks through stars\, trees\, and grasses. Healing begins in the silence between breaths. \nThe Bogong’s Song is a rich blend of storytelling\, shadow puppetry\, dance\, and song created especially for primary-aged children. As the children open their hearts to the stories of their ancestors\, we are all invited to experience connection to Country and discover that even the smallest creatures have a vital role to play. \nThis brand-new work from Yolande Brown and Chenoa Deemal follows the award-winning Waru – journey of the small turtle\, which has enthralled more than 25\,000 children. \nFeaturing Benjin Maza and Tjilala Brown-Roberts\, whose talents in dance\, music\, and spoken word bring this warm-hearted story to life – The Bogong’s Song invites young audiences to listen\, reflect\, and wonder. \nAge Recommendation: For children aged 5+ and their families. \nRunning time: 55 minutes\, no interval. \nPlease note that this production contains elevated sound levels\, haze\, smoke effects and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have passed.

This is a sensory world of vivid storytelling\, dreamy electronic music\, animation and the wonder of our Sydney Harbour. \nYou are invited to relax in a sea of pillows amidst a magical space of calm. Follow the journey of a humpback whale diving deep into the water\, and expanding into the reaches of the ocean itself. With mindfulness techniques wrapped up in a story time adventure\, we’ll introduce younger children to meditation\, and offer bigger kids a whole new perspective. \nWhat the Ocean Said is a Sydney Opera House New Work Now commission\, enabled by Jane & Russell Kift and by the Turnbull Foundation. \nThere are also performances of What the Ocean Said for Schools. \nPhoto credit: Annabel Osborne \nPresented by Sydney Opera House

SUMMARY:Wycheproof Steam Weekender
DESCRIPTION:Steamrail Victoria invites you to join us for this exciting event of overnight travel in beautifully restored sleeping carriages. Travel by steam to the Mallee town of Wycheproof – the unique town where the railway runs down the main street!\nThis will also be Steam Locomotive R711’s first visit to Wycheproof.TICKETS AND MORE INFO – www.trybooking.com/DEJKO \nDay 1 – Saturday 18th October 2025\nAfter picking up at Newport and Sunshine Stations\, the train will gather speed through the Western Suburbs and head out across the grasslands towards Geelong. After skirting Port Phillip Bay on the edge of the city of Geelong\, our R class steam locomotive (with diesel assistance) will work hard to lift our heavy sleeper train through the hills of the Golden Plains\, travelling along the original mainline between Ballarat and Geelong from 1862.\nFollowing a pick up stop at Ballarat\, we will venture north through the Goldfields to Maryborough – the station with a town attached. Here there will be a short stop to wander into town and have lunch while the locomotive takes on water. Rejoin the train for a spirited run through Dunolly and into the rolling hills of the Mallee – before arriving at Wycheproof\, 344 kilometres from Melbourne by rail.\nDisembark the train at your leisure for dinner at one of the local pubs before settling into your accommodation either On-Train or in Motels. \nDay 2 – Sunday 19th October 2025\nTime is provided to take a morning walk through town and to enjoy a complimentary buffet style breakfast at the Royal Mail Hotel. Enjoy views of R711 steaming up and down Broadway before rejoining the train in style – all passengers will board the train in the middle of the main street! Departure for Melbourne will be mid morning.\nOnce the train is underway\, a complimentary boxed lunch will be provided onboard\, courtesy of Bakery on Broadway. After another brief stop at Maryborough\, we will arrive back into Ballarat.\nAn express run back to Melbourne will be made via ‘the straight’ – via Bacchus Marsh – descending the famous 1 in 48 Ingliston Bank\, providing spectacular views back towards Melbourne & across the Werribee Gorge State Park before passing over the iconic 357-metre Melton Viaduct\, built in 1885 to traverse the Werribee River.
