Science To Fascinate Phillip Island

Music with milk bottles, disappearing pencils and optical illusions are just a few of the hands-on activities that families can enjoy at the Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies. From Friday 30 March the Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies will play host to a range of intriguing and interactive experiences as part of the Fascinating Science travelling exhibition, created by Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra. Suitable for the whole family, Fascinating Science is a collection of 32 bright and colourful hands on exhibits and aims to make science fun and relevant for everyone by engaging people in making their own stimulating discoveries. “ The mix of science and hands on fun in the Fascinating Science exhibition has something for every visitor,” said Kim Dunstan, Phillip Island Nature Parks Education Coordinator. Visitors can take part in exciting activities such as creating a pyramid using a spatial puzzle that tests your ability to reconstruct three-dimensional shapes, or using geometric puzzle pieces to create a cat, swan, square or triangle. Fascinating Science focuses on human senses such as psychology, perception, physiology and balance, explored in a fun, interactive way, helping visitors to enjoy learning about science. Visitors can also experiment with mirrors to unlock secret messages, move pegs on a board to create a variety of patterns, and create a three-dimensional cross using a key and lock puzzle. “ We are really excited to host the Fascinating Science exhibit and we look forward to seeing the community enjoy all of the activities on offer” said Kim. Targeted primarily at children aged 8 to 14, but with topics of logic, balance, fluids, illusions and mathematical puzzles of varying complexity, Fascinating Science will engage all ages about the wonders of science. Fascinating Science will be open at the Antarctic Journey between 10am and 4pm from Friday 30 March to Sunday 15 April. Entry to the travelling exhibition is FREE with an Antarctic Journey ticket or 4 Parks Pass which includes entry to the Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Centre, Churchill Island Heritage Farm, and Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies.
