DESCRIPTION:Shinju Matsuri – meaning ‘festival of the pearl’ – is a vibrant celebration of Broome’s (Rubibi’s) rich multicultural and pearling heritage. \nHeld each year over 16 days in August and September\, the festival brings the town to life with a dynamic program of events that highlight the sights\, sounds\, and flavours of this iconic coastal community. \nSince the late 1800s\, Broome has drawn people from across the globe—Japanese\, Chinese\, Malay\, Indonesian\, Filipino\, European and Aboriginal communities—united by the lure of the region’s prized South Sea pearls. \nShinju Matsuri honours this unique cultural tapestry with an exciting lineup of events set against Broome’s breathtaking natural backdrop of white sands\, turquoise waters and red cliffs. From beachside sunset feasts to colourful cultural performances\, it’s a feast for the senses. \nWant more? Visit a pearl farm\, join the camel conga line for a sunset ride along picture-perfect Cable Beach and discover ancient dinosaur footprints at Gantheaume Point. Then as darkness descends and conditions are just right\, witness the natural phenomenon of the Staircase to the Moon at Roebuck Bay. \nThe welcoming Kimberley town of Broome is a two-and-a-half-hour flight north of Perth.
