Melbourne Suburbs

Many of the citizens of Melbourne live in the suburbs to east and south of the Yarra River, sprawled around Port Phillip Bay and extending as far east as Mount Dandenong. The North and the West are catching up fast though. There is plenty to do and see in the suburbs of Melbourne that I am sure you wont have trouble finding fun places to go with the kids.

The Great Ocean Road is said by many to be one of the best coastal roads in the world. Well - it’s true!! The road runs for 250 km from Torquay, to Warrnambool, taking approximately 5 hours of non-stop driving. But, who wouldn’t want to stop? On the route there are many places to pause and enjoy the views of the ocean and what the coastal towns have to offer. In Torquay, The Surf World Musesum celebrates the story of surfing and shows Australia’s contribution to the development of surfing. It houses surfing artefacts and memorabilia and commemorates Australia’s fantastic surfing heritage and rich beach culture. In Lorne you can go jump on some trampolines or grab a snack or meal at one of the many eateries. Nearby, the Otway Fly Treetop Adventures offer a whole host of experiences with the two core activities being the Treetop Walk and the Zip Line Eco Tour. The kids will find the experience a memorable one. Just a 15 minute drive west of Apollo Bay, Maits Rest is a protected habitat that is reminiscent of the Otways 100 million years ago. Little lighthouse keepers can climb to the top of the Cape Otway Lightstation. Prepare yourself for ship watching along the way and keep an eye out for koalas sleeping high up in the gums. Near Port Campbell are the world famous 12 Apostles. These unique rock formations that were carved by years of erosion used to be part of the mainland. There’s not 12 anymore – Some have succumbed to the elements. How many are left? Not telling – You’ll have to find out for yourself! The Great Ocean Road has so much happening and things to do, parents and kids alike will find something they love!
