Families And Kids Activities In Northern Midlands
Northern Midlands
Northern Midlands Council is a local government body in Tasmania, extending south of Launceston into the northern region of the Tasmanian central midlands. Come outside and play at family-friendly Longford! ALL-NEW ELECTRONIC PLAYGROUND! You’ll love Tasmania’s first Electronic Playground, catering for big and little kids, and combining the joy of outside play with video games! Not only will you love climbing and swinging all over it, you can also play one of the 13 electronic games. Test your agility, memory, and balance… and be prepared to laugh your head off! While in Longford, try out your tricks at our skate park, and practice your sprints or ride for fun on our international standard velodrome. Bring your dog too! We have two dog parks, and a great river walk to the Mill Dam, a popular recreation spot in the summer. Two rivers meet at Longford – the Macquarie and the South Esk, so we enjoy fun water activities. Bring your kayaks or cast a line to catch a wild trout. Longford also has an excellent sports centre, with a fully equipped gym, and a great program of exercise classes. This much fun and games will make you very hungry, so bring a picnic to enjoy by the river or on the village green, or take advantage of the cafes & bakeries for refreshments. Fun events bring people together at Longford. We have concerts, exhibitions, festivals, sporting events, a monthly market (last Saturday each month), Longford Cup Picnic Races (New Year’s Day), Longford Show, the best family show in Australia (October), Festival of Roses, Longford Blooms & Open Gardens (November). Visit to help plan your visit. Make a day of it, or even a whole weekend…. Longford’s so easy to get to and we have lots of places to stay! By car, we are 20 minutes from Launceston, one hour from Devonport, 2.5 hours from Hobart.
