Mornington Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula is located just over an hour’s drive away from the city, on Melbourne’s ‘doorstep’, and is often described as Melbourne’s summer playground.

Relive childhood memories that you have from summer and make new memories for the next generation with sunny holidays along the Peninsula’s beaches like Portsea, Sorrento, Rosebud, Dromana, Rye, McCrae and Safety Beach. They continue to be a favourite holiday destination amongst Melbourne families.

The Peninsula has some of the safest and most beautiful swimming beaches in the world. There are literally kilometres of sheltered calm waters for the family to frolic in, as well as great foreshores for building those sandcastles or a traditional game of beach cricket.

Too many options makes for a hard decision on what to choose – fish, snorkel, paddle in the water with the sandbars or just go for a swim! The summer carnivals at Rye and Rosebud are a must see. Try and find your way through multiple mazes around the Peninsula.

Take a swim with dolphins, explore the wetlands or take a look at some conservation areas.

Frankston is a bustling and modern city, fronting Port Phillip Bay and, of course, is the entry point to the Mornington Peninsula. The Frankston Waterfront precinct is based around Frankston Pier where there is a central square, lawns, visitor information centre and restaurant. A scenic boardwalk extends southwards along the coast, ending at the boat ramp near the base of Olivers Hill.

Mornington’s original post office, built in 1863 at the corner of Main Street and The Esplanade, now operates as a museum displaying old telecommunications equipment and items relating to local history. On the other side of Main Street is the old court house (built in 1860) and the former police station lock-up (1862).

When the weather gets a bit too hot even for the beach, you can head to ‘the hills’ in the middle of the peninsula to places like Red Hill, Main Ridge and Arthurs Seat for a bit cooler weather, some great views and loads of activities.

Go strawberry picking at Sunny Ridge - Make sure to try the icecream, it’s delicious!

Have a relaxing soak in the nearby Hot Springs. A day isn’t complete without a visit to Horseback Fun 4 Kids for a fun and educational riding experience.

So, book a tour, go by yourself or with friends and discover all the secrets hidden on the peninsula, which there is a lot, especially for kids!!
