ABOUT — Meander Wilderness Experiences

River Sledding Adventure

Meander Wilderness Experiences is the first River Sledding adventure in Tasmania and one of the top things to do in Tasmania. Understandably, a lot of people don’t know what to expect.  The biggest fear is that they’ll get cold – apparently, it’s a thing Tassie is known for.

They will provide a 3mm thick and double layered over the chest.  They also provide gloves, booties, life jackets and helmets.  With all that on, you are set and the spirit of adventure kicks in leaving any thought of the cold behind.

Nature retreats

River Sledding is simple in practice. We give you heavy-duty sleds, show you how to operate them then let you lose on the Meander River. Your sled is like a thick blow-up mattress, it has a handle for carrying and to help you hang on.

What to Expect in River Sledding

The tours are a whitewater experience, where you’ll enjoy the thrill of grade one and two river rapids all while taking in the tranquillity of the Meander River and its surrounds. You’ll be taken through a full briefing before hitting the water for a skills session before you float your way toward the first round of rapids.

From here, you’ll spend 1.5 to two hours on the water and travel three kilometres downstream while the guides share local stories from days gone by and give you the option to try out tricks with your newfound river sledding skills!

The tours kick off at the Meander Memorial Hall where they’ll meet you and you’ll be introduced to our awesome guides. From here, you’ll be transported to the riverbank where our river sledding adventure begins! They will look after you from the moment you arrive, right through to when we conclude the tour and you’re dropped back to the Hall.

River Sledding Tour Details

River sledding is suitable for children with a minimum height of 130cm. If younger children are accompanying a family group and do not meet the minimum height, they are still able to experience the thrill alongside our river guide in an inflatable kayak.

Note: Children under 18 must have their form filled in by a parent or guardian. Children are permitted to take part in the tour without an accompanying adult and will be cared for by our guides.
