Mundaring
This quaint village in the hills has plenty of arts and craft galleries. Nearby, Lake Leschanaultia (see below) is a great day out where the whole family can swim, paddle, cycle, go walking or even camp out. The Munda Biddi Trail and Railway Reserves Heritage Trail offer cycling enthusiasts plenty of options.
Hillarys
Hillarys Boat Harbour is situated 20 minutes north of Perth via the extremely scenic coastal road or by Freeway to Hepburn Ave.
You could spend an entire day here exploring everything it has to offer.
It is a destination in itself, with shops, casual and formal eateries and a safe swimming beach. It is home to the Western Australian Aquarium, and has plenty of free parking. It has a boat launching ramp and you can even catch a fast ferry from Hillarys across to beautiful Rottnest Island. They depart daily. Hillarys even has its own Resort Hotel! The area offers a great alternative to staying in the CBD or down south.
Kalamunda
Visit the Kalamunda Village Markets, an authentic street market open the first Saturday morning each month.
The Kalamunda History Village shows the development of local industries and services, transport and domestic life from European settlement onwards. There are bush walking maps available from the visitors centre and parts of the world famous Bibbulman Track pass through the area.
