You can walk or cycle on the shared pathways to explore Ulverstone’s waterfront, playgrounds and parks. Enjoy the panoramic views over Ulverstone from the Zigzag Gardens, take a river cruise or try your hand at fishing. The town’s water slide and the long sandy beaches that surround the town are summer favourites. With plenty of places to stay, Ulverstone is a great place to base yourself to explore the region.
From Ulverstone take the scenic coastal drive to Penguin where you can visit the Big Penguin and the TARDIS. Penguin backs onto the Dial Range where you can go bush walking or trail riding, at Ferndene Gorge and Mount Montgomery State Reserves. From the mountain tops you can see stunning views over Penguin and the North West Coast.
Be sure to take some time to experience the awe-inspiring 275m deep Leven Canyon, a short 45 minute drive from Ulverstone. Choose the short easy walk to Cruickshanks Lookout or challenge yourself to complete the circuit, taking the 697 steps to the Edge Lookout and return via the Fern Walk.
Take a different road back to the coast and visit Preston Falls a 5 minute walk from the road and continue on to Gunns Plains where you can explore the Caves or visit the Wildlife Park. Heading out of the Valley towards South Riana stop at Wood house Lookout for a spectacular view of Gunns Plains.
