2024 Autumn School Holidays at Flagstaff Hill

Spend your school holidays in an enchanting maritime village that is alive with kid’s activities, farm animals, yummy food, fresh air and ocean views PLUS follow the Bunny Trail through the village on Easter Sunday and find the clues to claim a special Easter reward at the end!

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS
Garrison Dress Ups

Dress up in military costume to become a Warrnambool Garrison Artillery Soldier. Button up your coat, tip your pill box hat, select your rifle* and hear all about the origins of the Flagstaff Hill Garrison precinct from Bombardier Leigh. Enjoy a demonstration of the correct way to hold and move your rifle from the Order to the Shoulder, then the Slope positions and pose for photos.

Tales in Tails

Dressed in his tails and top hat John Harrison is set to entertain you with his hilarious interpretations of Chooks in Dinner Suits and The Bunyip of Berkley’s Creek. Then as a special treat he will tell his own Bunyip story!

Marvellous Medicines

Be prepared to be shocked, surprised and have lots of fun as Flagstaff Hill’s very own Apothecary Dr John Harrison provides an entertaining insight into the curious ailments that affect our bodies and the 19th century treatments which were practiced and administered.

What he has to tell you will make you grateful for the advancements of modern medicine today!

CRAFT

Papercraft Buildings

Flagstaff Hill has many styles of buildings with interesting brick patterns, verandas, windows and unique features. Construct a 2 Dimensional or 3 Dimensional house or building with paper then decorate it in your individual style.

Peg Dolls

The tradition of making peg dolls out of wooden clothes pegs comes from a time when people had little money to spend on toys. Use a wooden peg and material to create a peg doll that you can personalise it with ribbon, woolen hair and other decorations to make a unique and special item.

Whale’s Garden Collage

The underwater world is home to many life forms. Using a variety of materials create a stunning shimmery garden collage which would be perfect for a whale to live in and swim through.

Pirate’s Treasure

Imagine yourself as a pirate and think of what treasure you might like to find? Make your own coins, precious gems and other treasures to fill up your pirate loot bag.

Felt Sea Creatures

Working with coloured felt, create your own little sea creatures. Hang them together to create a mobile or carry them with you on holiday and use them as finger puppets to entertain your travel companions.

Warrnambool Woodworkers

Choose from a wide selection of pre-made, fun and easy woodwork kits for kids to build. With a friendly team of helpers on hand, D.I.Y has never been this much fun.

EASTER SUNDAY

On Easter Sunday, follow the Bunny Trail through the village and find the clues to claim your Easter reward.  Collect your Bunny Trail card from Flagstaff Hill Reception.

DAILY ACTIVATIONS

Guided Heritage Tour

Every day at 11:30am you can join a guided heritage tour of the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Heritage Precinct. Hear all about the history of Flagstaff Hill and the impressive artefact collection, and discover the stories behind treasures like the $4 million Minton Peacock statue. Tours are suitable for all ages.

Stella Maris Tearooms

During the school holidays the Tearooms are open daily 10:30am – 3pm. Indulge in a Devonshire tea or enjoy a light lunch whilst taking in the views. Order your special Easter picnic pack in advance to avoid waiting.

Mrs Kuck’s Confectionary Shop

With jars of old favourites lining the walls discover a treasure trove of nostalgic sweet treats to delight everyone.
