A journey, half a century in the making…as Bass Strait Maritime Centre proudly unveils its extraordinary exhibition commemorating its 50-year legacy and celebrates the community that made it possible.

For the past half-century, Bass Strait Maritime Centre in the heart of punnilarpanner country/Mersey River, has stood as a testament to the rich social and maritime heritage of Devonport, and the profound significance of Bass Strait in connecting communities and shaping the history of this region.

In a heartfelt tribute, our exhibition showcases 50 meticulously curated objects, handpicked by 50 passionate Tasmanians, each representing a unique tale of Devonport history and its relationship with Bass Strait.

Objects selected are as diverse as the BSMC collection and the guest curators ….itself with a broad cross section of items including life jackets, ship models, artworks, trophies, as well as persona items from Devonport’s early families.

Exhibition runs until 25th February 2024
