Territory kids love swimming in Top End waterholes, but it is important to know where and when to swim.
Parks and reserves across the Northern Territory have some great swimming areas. Some big and busy, some small and out of the way, and all incredibly beautiful.
Always remember that saltwater crocodiles may be found in any waterway in northern Australia, so when you are out and about exploring the best of the Top End, always remember to Be Crocwise.
Sometimes, in some places, at some times of year, management actions can be put in place to minimise the risk of salties entering an area. There will always be a swimming area open sign at these locations when it is OK to enter the water. If there isn’t a sign, do not enter the water, even if there are other people swimming at the time or if you have swum there previously.
Help us keep your favourite swimming area looking its best by using the pool entry points to get in and out of the water. Chill out and watch the world float by while you swim.
Always check the NT parks and wildlife website for your nearest open swimming areas before heading out of town. You’ll find a list of safe swimming areas at Swimming in parks | NT.GOV.AU.
