Queanbeyan

Queanbeyan is a lively town near Canberra, perfect for families who love to play and explore. One great spot is Queen Elizabeth II Park, where kids can enjoy many playgrounds, splash in the wet-play area, or run on the grass. It’s also a nice place for a picnic with family and friends.

Fun Fact: Did you know Queen Elizabeth II Park has over 148 playgrounds in the whole Queanbeyan-Palerang area? That’s a lot of places to have fun!

If you get hungry, you can visit The Mill Café in Queanbeyan. They serve tasty meals and woodfired pizzas, and you can even bring your dog! There are many other small shops and cafés nearby where you can find snacks and drinks.

Queanbeyan-Palerang

The Queanbeyan-Palerang area includes Queanbeyan and nearby towns like Bungendore and Braidwood. Each town has fun things for kids and families.

In Bungendore, The Gathering Café is a cosy place to eat while kids play in the special play corner with toys and a cubby house. The Bungendore Lolly Shop is a colorful store full of sweets like lollies, fudge, and chocolates that kids love.

Bungendore also has a great playground built in 2022. It has a flying fox, climbing nets, and a mini bike track for riding bikes or scooters. There’s also a skatepark nearby where you can skate or shoot hoops.

Braidwood has Ryrie Park, a playground with rope bridges, swings, and picnic tables under shady trees. Near there is Bicentennial Park, where you can try outdoor play equipment and maybe spot platypus in the creek.

Fun Fact: Platypus are very special animals that live in the creeks around Braidwood. 

If you love horses, The Saddle Camp in Braidwood is a special place to visit. Kids can ride ponies, take half-day lessons, or even stay overnight. It’s a calm place where you can learn about horses and have fun. While kids enjoy riding, parents can relax at the café nearby.

Just 10 minutes from Queanbeyan is Googong Foreshores, a natural park around the Googong Dam. There are easy walking trails, picnic areas, and lookouts to see the water and wildlife. Swimming is not allowed in the dam because it is the town’s water supply, but you can swim downstream in the Queanbeyan River. Fishing is popular here, but you need a fishing license.

Queanbeyan-Palerang has four seasons, so you can visit anytime. Summers are warm and sunny, great for playing outside. Autumn brings cool weather and pretty changing leaves. Winters are cool, good for cosy cafés and indoor fun. Spring is fresh and nice for walking, riding, and playing outside.
