AFL Canberra
AFL Canberra is the heart of Australian Rules Football in the nation’s capital and surrounding regions. As the local governing body, it oversees a range of competitions across the Australian Capital Territory and the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.
The organisation supports several levels of competitive play. These include the Seniors First Grade, Second Grade, Thirds, and Fourths, along with the Rising Stars League, which focuses on emerging talent. There’s also strong support for women’s footy, with most AFL Canberra clubs fielding teams in the ACT Women’s Australian Football League. From grassroots to elite, AFL Canberra ensures there’s a pathway for every aspiring footballer.
Kids Football
Australian Football is also for the kids—no matter their age, ability, or background. With a focus on fun, friendship, and development, AFL Canberra offers a range of pathways tailored to each age group.
Ages 4–7: NAB AFL Auskick
NAB AFL Auskick is the perfect introduction to footy for kids in their early years. Children can begin in the calendar year they turn five, with sessions designed to build basic skills through games and laughter.
Game-based learning: Activities feel like play, helping kids learn without pressure.
All abilities welcome: No previous footy experience required.
All-girls groups available for added comfort and inclusion.
Only one hour per week: Easy for busy families.
No special gear needed: Wear whatever’s comfortable.
Bonus perks: Kids receive a footy pack, AFL junior membership, and may even get to play at half-time during elite AFL matches.
Parents are also encouraged to get involved—it’s a fun and social way to support your child’s development while being part of a welcoming community.
Ages 7–12: NAB AFL Superkick
For children who are ready to take their skills a step further, Superkick offers a more structured—but still pressure-free—experience.
Designed for ages 7–12, regardless of skill level.
Skill-building and modified games: Learn and play in a supportive, inclusive setting.
Focus on fun: No scores, no pressure—just mates, mud, and plenty of movement.
Everyone plays their way: Kids are encouraged to explore their own style and pace.
Superkick is a fantastic stepping stone between Auskick and full junior club football. It helps build confidence, fosters friendships, and keeps kids active and smiling.
Ages 13+: AFL Nines
Older kids and teens aren’t left out! AFL Nines is a social, nine-a-side version of the game played on a smaller field with modified rules.
For ages 13 and up, including youth, senior, and masters grades.
No tackling: Replaced by one-handed touch for safe, inclusive play.
Flexible format: 8–10 game season, with casual registration options.
Ideal for beginners or those easing back into sport.
Affordable: Just $8–$12 per person, per game (includes insurance).
Whether it’s a teen looking for a low-pressure sport, or a family wanting to play together, AFL Nines is a great way to enjoy footy in a relaxed setting.
