AFL Sapphire Coast

AFL Sapphire Coast

AFL Sapphire Coast is the home of community Australian Rules football across the Sapphire Coast. It supports local clubs, competitions, and volunteers who bring footy to towns and communities each week. With clear pathways for players of all ages and abilities, AFL Sapphire Coast focuses on making the game accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.

Local clubs are at the heart of the competition. Volunteers, coaches, and families work together to create a friendly environment where players can learn skills, make friends, and build confidence. Whether you are new to the sport or have grown up around footy, there is a place for you to get involved.

From first kicks through to social competitions for teens and adults, AFL Sapphire Coast offers flexible options that fit around family life and community schedules. The emphasis is always on participation, safety, and enjoyment rather than pressure or results.

Kids Football

Kids football is a major focus of AFL Sapphire Coast, with age-based programs designed to suit different stages of development.

NAB AFL Auskick (Ages 4–7)

NAB AFL Auskick is the introduction to Australian Football for young children. Kids can start in the calendar year they turn five, and no previous experience is needed. Sessions are built around game-based activities, so learning happens naturally through play.

Auskick runs for one hour per week, making it easy for busy families. There is no need for expensive equipment, as children can wear whatever they are comfortable in. Groups are divided by age, with optional all-girls groups available. Parents are encouraged to join in, help out, or simply support from the sidelines.

Children also receive extra benefits, including a footy pack, an Auskick Junior Club Membership for an AFL club of their choice, and opportunities to take part in half-time activities at AFL and AFLW matches.

NAB AFL Superkick (Ages 7–12)

Superkick is designed for kids who want to keep playing footy without the pressure of full competition. It suits children aged 7 to 12, regardless of skill level or background.

The program is tackle-free, game-based, and held at one location once a week. Sessions focus on skill development through modified games, helping kids improve at their own pace. All-girls programs, including Team Tayla, offer a supportive option for young girls who want to play with friends in a comfortable setting.

Superkick is often the step between Auskick and junior club football, helping children build confidence, teamwork, and a strong connection to the game.

AFL Nines (Ages 13+)

For older kids and teens, AFL Nines offers a social version of footy played on a smaller field with nine players per side. Tackling is replaced with one-handed touch, making it safe and inclusive. It is ideal for beginners, teens wanting a relaxed competition, or families keen to play together.

Things to do in Sapphire Coast

The Sapphire Coast offers plenty to enjoy alongside local footy. Families can explore beaches, coastal walks, and national parks, or spend time at local cafés and markets. Match days often become social outings, with kids playing sport while parents catch up with friends and neighbours.

Community football is part of a wider lifestyle on the Sapphire Coast. Getting involved with AFL Sapphire Coast is being part of an active, connected community that values participation, support, and fun.
