Arthur River Cruises
Tucked away on Tasmania’s wild north-west coast, Arthur River Cruises offers a breathtaking eco-adventure deep into one of Australia’s last truly untamed wilderness areas. Set in the heart of the Tarkine, one of the last untouched rainforests in the world, this cruise takes you deep into nature aboard the M.V. Reflections or the iconic MV George Robinson — affectionately known as “The Red Boat.”
The journey takes guests 14 kilometres upstream along the majestic Arthur River to the junction with the Frankland River, where you’ll disembark at Warra Landing or Turk’s Landing for an intimate guided rainforest walk. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the tranquillity and biodiversity of Tasmania’s northwest.
You’ll spot towering myrtles, blackwoods, tree ferns, and more — all mirrored perfectly in the still, tea-coloured waters. With White-bellied Sea Eagles soaring above and the potential to glimpse azure kingfishers or even a platypus, the wildlife encounters are as rich as the scenery.
Cruises run from Tuesday to Sunday, weather permitting. Bookings are essential due to catering requirements, and a minimum of six adult passengers is needed for the cruise to run.
Arthur River
Arthur River is one of Australia’s last truly wild rivers. Flowing through the Tarkine Wilderness in North West Tasmania, it remains un-dammed and pristine. This river winds its way through ancient rainforest, home to trees and plants that have existed since the age of the dinosaurs.
The surrounding township of Arthur River is peaceful and remote — a perfect getaway for those wanting to switch off and reconnect with nature. After your cruise, make time to visit the famous “Edge of the World” lookout, where the Southern Ocean’s waves crash into rugged rocks at one of the most western points of Tasmania.
Arthur River Cruise
There are two main cruise options in Arthur River, both offering slightly different but equally special experiences.
MV George Robinson – “The Red Boat”
With over 37 years of operation, the MV George Robinson is a part of Arthur River’s heritage. This steel-hulled vessel is decked out in Tasmanian timber and brass, with open front and rear decks for uninterrupted views. The friendly skipper offers fascinating commentary, and guests are treated to morning tea, a BBQ lunch (featuring beef sausage and burger, homemade salads, and fruitcake), and wine or hot drinks.
The cruise includes a guided rainforest walk at Turk’s Landing and returns to Arthur River township around 3:00 pm.
MV Reflections
For a quieter, modern experience, M.V. Reflections offers coach-style seating and a comfortable, tri-hull design. This cruise also heads to the Arthur and Frankland river junction and includes a gourmet BBQ lunch at Warra Landing — complete with Cape Grim scotch fillet, award-winning lamb sausages, jacket potatoes, salads, homemade cake, and Tassie wines and juices.
This cruise also includes a White-bellied Sea Eagle feeding and detailed commentary on the environment and wildlife.
Private Charters
Want to celebrate something special? Arthur River Cruises also offers private charters, perfect for small weddings, Christmas parties, photography tours, or any occasion worth marking with something extraordinary. Charter packages include gourmet catering and personalised service.
