Hobart PCYC

Hobart PCYC is a lively, community-focused, not-for-profit organisation established in 1953. Its mission centres on providing low-cost, positive sporting, recreational, social, and cultural programs within a safe and supportive environment. Primarily, it supports ‘at-risk’ and disadvantaged children and youth, but its programs are open to the wider community as well. Hobart PCYC actively works to foster strong, positive relationships between young people and Tasmania Police, aiming to reduce crime through engagement, community involvement, and support. The centre welcomes everyone to drop in or contact them for information, ensuring there is something interesting for all ages and abilities.

Gymnastics Hobart

One of the standout programs at Hobart PCYC is its extensive gymnastics offering, which caters to participants from toddlers right through to adults. Hobart PCYC has a program tailored to suit all skill levels. The gymnastics classes focus on creating a fun and positive environment where participants not only develop physical skills but also build confidence, social connections, and healthy habits.

For the youngest participants, the Rocket Tots program welcomes children aged 6 months to 4 years. This free-play session encourages movement and learning through music and interaction with gymnastics equipment like balance beams, trampolines, ropes, and climbing obstacles.

Children aged up to five can join the Mini Martians class, a preschool-focused program designed to develop strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and posture. Parents or caregivers actively participate alongside their children, supporting social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in a safe and fun setting.

Older children can progress into the Recreational Gymnastics Program, where they learn fundamental movement patterns through safe games and activities. This program encourages cooperation, teamwork, and self-esteem, while improving balance and coordination. It includes GymFun classes divided by age and ability, starting from beginners aged 5-6 years, through to more advanced levels for children up to 11 years.

As children develop, they may enter the more challenging GymSkills Program with classes focusing on boys’ or girls’ gymnastics skills, rhythmic gymnastics, or tumbling. Those who show potential and interest in competitive gymnastics can then be invited to join the Competitive Program Pathway, offering specialised training and development.

PCYC

Hobart PCYC’s wider mission is about more than just sport — it’s a centre for youth development, community engagement, and safety. By providing affordable programs, Hobart PCYC ensures that children and young people from all backgrounds can access opportunities to be active, learn new skills, and build friendships in a positive environment. The organisation’s strong partnership with Tasmania Police helps build trust and reduce youth crime by connecting police with young people through sport and community activities.

Beyond gymnastics, Hobart PCYC offers a variety of recreational and cultural programs that aim to enhance well-being and create a sense of belonging. The friendly staff and coaches at PCYC are dedicated to supporting each individual’s growth, whether through physical activity, social events, or educational opportunities.
