Tamar River Cruises has been Tasmanian owned and operated from Launceston’s Home Point Cruise Terminal since 1996.
The two vessels, the Tamar Odyssey and Lady Launceston have shared the unique cruising experience of the Cataract Gorge and Tamar Valley with over a million passengers over the past 25 years.
The Vessels
Tamar River Cruises proudly offer two vessels which operate 364 days of the year.
Tamar Odyssey
The layout of Tamar Odyssey is open-plan with spacious lounges throughout. Guests are able to move between the outer, upper and lower decks with ease. Tamar River Cruises has an open wheelhouse policy therefore guests are welcome to sit with the Skipper in comfort.
The vessel is wheelchair friendly with easy access to the lower outer deck, main salon and bathroom facilities. Smoking is permitted only in the open bow area. Their comfortable lounge seating creates a friendly and casual dining atmosphere. Safety is our top priority, backed by a team that is highly experienced and entirely accredited, alongside a thoroughly inspected ship.
Lady Launceston
The Lady Launceston, built to reflect the 1890’s traditional design, is primarily designed for serene cruising along Cataract Gorge and Launceston’s riverfront district, thanks to its silent and distinctive electric drive.
Modern lounge seating ensures guests travel in comfort. Centre seating is easily removed to create a friendly open-plan atmosphere for that special occasion and a casual dining experience.
Smoking is possible on the outside rear deck only. Wheelchair access is possible (please notify their crew in advance). Safety is our top priority, backed by a team that is highly experienced and entirely accredited, alongside a thoroughly inspected ship.

Enjoy a morning or an afternoon on the water and explore the magical Tamar River and Cataract Gorge on-board the Tamar Odyssey. During the 2.5 hour experience enjoy live historical commentary, afternoon tea, freshly brewed tea and coffee, local beer and wine tasting complimented with a delicious fresh fruit basket selection.
Batman Bridge Luncheon Cruise
Cruise 40 kilometres down Australia’s longest navigable estuary and experience the natural beauty and magic of Launceston’s famous Tamar Valley and the Cataract Gorge.
During the 4 hour cruise, taste local wine and beer, enjoy freshly brewed tea and coffee, morning tea, a light lunch, delicious Tasmanian cheese platter and fresh fruit selection.
