Join the Waters Ward Elected Members to celebrate Father’s Day with an afternoon of family fun, activities, food, competitions and an outdoor movie screening of Paper Planes (G) under the stars. A free and fun community event to celebrate our dads and carers at Anula Oval on Saturday 5 September 2026 from 4.30pm.
The Father’s Day movie night event is packed with activities the whole family will love. Visit the Fun in the Parks team and Fun Bus to make a special Father’s Day card or enter a drawing competition. Get active with our sports activities or challenge the family to a fun race for the chance to win prizes before settling in for the outdoor movie screening of Paper Planes (2014).
Activities include
– Visit Fairy Jill and have your face painted.
– Make a Father’s Day card with the Fun Bus team or enter our drawing competition
– Prize events! Compete to win at the 3-legged race, egg and spoon race or stilts race
– Have an Animal Encounter at the petting zoo.
– Come along to have a putt with Golf NT or score a goal with the Garuda Football club.
– We will have a community BBQ brought to you by the local football club, Garuda FC
– City of Darwin’s environment team will have a stall with native plants to giveaway.
– Darwin Neighbourhood Watch and the Men’s Shed will also have community stalls to visit.
Movie Night
Bring your picnic set up and get cosy for an outdoor viewing of Paper Planes (G) under the stars.
Bring your own dinner or grab something from the community BBQ.
The movie will begin at 6:30 pm. We suggest you get here early, set up your picnic and then go enjoy the activities before settling in for the screening.
Paper Planes (2014)
12 year-old Dylan discovers he has an unusual hidden talent for making great paper planes. With the support of his eccentric granddad and funny friends, Dylan eventually makes it to the junior championships in Japan. Competing with the world’s best not only helps Dylan build better planes, he builds new friendships and works with his dad to build a better relationship together. This is an uplifting family drama with an imaginative premise and some hilarious moments.
