They are free and the kids will have a ball (as long as there is more than just one swing set) But don’t worry, I can help you with finding those awesome playgrounds. Melbourne has a plethora!
Here is a list of the top 10 playgrounds (in my opinion) in Melbourne –
Navigation Park Tarneit – Complete with a water zone, water squirting elephant, lookout tower, slides, rope climbers, basketball half court, BBQ’s and picnic pavilion, mini trampoline and sporting ovals.
Eltham Lower Park – Full with things to do like the double flying fox, liberty swing, butterfly climbing wall, spinning carousel and the biggest hit, a miniature railway. The miniature railway winds its way across bridges and through tunnels. It is considered to be the best in the country!!
Royal Park Nature Playground Parkville – This spectacular playground is all natural, with a splash water play area, rock wall with slides, climbing forest and swings. There is also a sand area, where kids can get dirty digging and building things made out of sand.
Frontier Park Playground Rockbank – The playground boasts three huge towers with nature play areas. It has ropes, tunnels, bridges, a huge twisty slide, pentagon swing set, sandpit and smaller slides. It also has a carousel and a water play area for the kids to explore
Hays Paddock Kew – One of the best playgrounds going around with super-size swings, huge butterflies, toadstools and a giant see-saw. There’s a wetlands area with a bird hire and a learner’s bike circuit too.
Victoria Park Ascot Vale – A huge wooden adventure playground with an array of walkways, swings, slides, multiple towers, suspended platforms, flying foxes and a sandpit. There are plenty of undercover areas for a much loved picnic or BBQ.
Skinners Park South Melbourne – The playground has a range of things to do, from cubby houses in a tree, to trampolines, slides, swings, see-saws, climbing nets and a chicken house. It is for all different ages, with a basketball/soccer court as well for the older kids.
Golden Sun Moth Playground Craigieburn – An amazing playground for adventurous climbers. The main structure is in the shape of a Golden Sun Moth – climb or slide down its six legs, crawl along the ropes of its underbelly and zip down the tail back to the ground! There are also two very high spider web pyramids to climb.
Bayview Park Point Cook – This park is home to Melbourne’s biggest and steepest playground slide which starts from a hill with a huge Pirate Ship and is frighteningly steep! The slide is restricted to older children and teenagers of height more than 1.28m. The pirate ship has a crow’s nest on the top deck as well as a fireman’s pole and binoculars for taking in the great view. The ship also has a tunnel, climbing wall, rope ladders and wide slide.
Valley Reserve Mount Waverley – The playground is split up into four different areas suitable for different ages and abilities. Older kids will enjoy the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo and Owl areas the best, with a large rope climbing course, a huge net swing and two flying foxes and a high platform/tree house.
